Policy and Advocacy
Our policy and advocacy team partner with scientists, former civil servants, and organizations to turn science and grassroots energy into action. We serve as a trusted resource and channel for the scientific community, especially for individuals and groups sidelined and silenced or never had a real seat at the table. We advocate for these voices through strategic convenings on Capitol Hill, independent policy analysis, and direct engagement with members of Congress.
Our activities are designed to reinforce each other:
Congressional briefings and engagements. We convene targeted briefings for Members of Congress and their staff, creating safe and credible spaces for scientists, civil servants to share firsthand accounts of political interference and their impact.
Policy analysis and position papers. We transform insights and expertise into independent policy analyses and position papers that propose concrete and actionable solutions.
Strategic advocacy. We build advocacy efforts that amplify voices, build coalitions that create the pressure for Congress and decision-makers to take action.
Beyond Science: How OMB’s Proposed Rule on Federal Financial Assistance Threatens Essential Services Nationwide
OMB’s proposed rule on federal financial assistance poses a sweeping threat to federal grantmaking and the responsible stewardship of American taxpayer dollars. It would dramatically expand executive authority to terminate, suspend, or redirect any discretionary federal grant at any time, for virtually any reason. This represents a deliberate weakening of Congress’s constitutional power of the purse and a dangerous disregard for the statutes Congress has passed to authorize critical services for Americans. While the scientific community has quickly responded with pushback, the implications of the proposed rule reach far beyond science and research.
